The Granddaddy of Them All® is always a highlight of the New Year and in 2014, it will be even more special. The January 1 matchup in Pasadena will be the 100th Rose Bowl Game, an unprecedented milestone in college football postseason play. As part of the celebration, we unveiled a commemorative logo at the Rose Bowl Stadium on April 23. Inspired by Pasadena-area architecture and incorporating homage to the local San Gabriel Mountains, the logo left sports reporters and other VIPs in attendance ooh-ing and aah-ing.
We also unveiled a special trophy for the 100th Rose Bowl Game champion. The centerpiece of the 21-inch-tall design – now with glimmering 24k gold vermeil accents – is a ¾-size football rendered entirely in sterling silver; a total of nearly 16 pounds is used. Master artisans of Tiffany & Co. spend some three months spinning, silversmithing, chasing, etching and polishing to bring this beauty to completion. Tiffany & Co. has designed and crafted the Leishman Trophy since 2004 and they’ve outdone themselves for this momentous occasion.
The commemorative logo and special trophy are just the start of football-related festivities to come. You can also look forward to the publication of a 100th Rose Bowl Game commemorative book – the first historical book on the game to be commissioned by the Tournament of Roses – by acclaimed sportswriter Malcolm Moran; selection of an All-Century Rose Bowl Hall of Fame Class, with gridiron representatives from each decade chosen by the Football Writers Association of America; and an opportunity for fans like you to make a permanent mark at the Rose Bowl Stadium. Keep your eye on Tournament Times for future updates on all this and more.by
